Testing A Child With Myopia
Our Myopia Management Examination
Your child's eye examination and eye health is very important to us. Testing a child with myopia will be slightly different to a normal eye examination.
A cycloplegia refraction is the use of drops to reduce the focusing ability of the eye to give the most accurate prescription. This is what is recommended by our lens manufacturers.
Every child is different and we will cater the test to your child's needs and will only do what they are comfortable doing. Additional tests that are done outside of the normal tests are highlighted below.
With Oracle Opticians this examination is free under the NHS. We feel every child should have access to these services.

Taking a full detailed history of your eye and overall physical health, any concerns you may be having about your eyes and any history of eye disease within your family.

Where possible, a full screening before the exam consisting of digital retinal photography and auto refraction to help determine your current eye prescription.

Muscle balance tests.

Full measurement of current and previous spectacles to help determine an accurate prescription.

A full slit lamp assessment to determine the overall health of the eye both at front and at the back.

Axial length (eye length measurement) measurement to assist in monitoring myopia progression.

Corneal topography where required to investigate conditions such as keratoconus.

Full cycloplegia refraction where required to give the most accurate prescription.

A full refraction with a digital phoropter with binocular balancing and near reading addition where required.

A comparison between your current and new prescription to see if there is any meaningful change for assurance and peace of mind.

Stereopsis test to determine depth perception between the two eyes.

A colour vision test where required.

A detailed explanation of your eye examination, prescription and any follow ups that may be required.

A copy of your prescription at the end of the examination.

This test is free for all children under 16 years old.
